    Hi,
We live on an acre south of Abbotsford, and we have about 40 fruit trees. With most of them, there is no problem, but we have about 10 apple trees, and most of them seem to be affected/infected with a critter I can not see or identify. I have looked in several Rodale books, but so far I have found nothing. I spray regularly every winter with lime-sulphur and dormant oil.

The apple trees get oval patches on the bark that are rather purplish at first. Several months later the bark in the patch dies and I then have an oval patch without bark. I presume it is some sort of borer, but I am not sure. I also do not want to use toxic chemicals if I can avoid using such. Can anyone help?
