This is my first entry and I am happy to see an opportunity to pick the minds of true gardeners.
My rhododendrums in the last couple years have been inundated with a small almost transparent little fly the lays flat against the leaf top and bottom. The leaves go from a healthy deep green to being depleted of colour to a yellowing all over. Eventually I end up with a pile of dead leaves underneath from last years growth. I was thinking it was whitefly and was using a end-all spray product on it. It is difficult to get the leaves on the top and bottom completely. Up until a week ago the leaves looked really healthy and I had a normal bloom earlier. It almost appears as if this last heat spell contributed to it, or stressed the plant further. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    thank you.

Sound like lace bugs, jib. I have trouble with a similar pest on my ceanothus, leaves yellow and plant fares poorly.

I would think the end all or any other general insecticide would knock these out, but as mentioned you have to contact all those bugs, and it's hard to reach upper and lower leaf surfaces.

Much more info if you google "lace bugs", maybe something else will work better for you. I just leave mine, keep hoping "nature" will manage them better than me spraying (not so far!)...
