We have a nasty malignant vine that's been trying to take over a fence-hedge for about a year now. I would like to identify it and find out if there is any way to effectively get rid of it. It grows very fast, and has tendrils very similar to a grape vine. The leave are soft and green and turn redish-yellow at the top of the hedge. It is basically growing over the existing hedge and does a good job of entangling itself around like a morning glory. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
That looks like it is most definitely it. The red stems in the link you posted didn't look like ours but the leaves and tendril arrangement is identical. We've also never seen the flowers, but that's probably a good thing. The University of Texas also has some pictures with the green stems that we have - http://www.sbs.utexas.edu/bio406d/images/pics/vit/ampelopsis_arborea.htm. Anyway, thanks for the identification. Now the problem remains of getting rid of it, as it is extremely aggressive...
