The deer here in Port Townsend eat just about anything in the garden. Helebores, saracocaca, lonicera, and a few other plants they leave alone. What about wiegila? I would like to add some large deciduous shrubs to the back of a part sun/part shade border, but don't want to invest in plants they'll slaughter. What about Ninebark? Viburnum sargentii O. ? Any suggestions? I know deer are very local creatures. What they eat in my garden they may leave for you to enjoy in yours. Any Quimper Peninsula gardeners out there who may also have suggestions?

Build an effectively fenced enclosure and confine your planting of otherwise vulnerable delicacies to it.

They also rub shrubs and trees, and may go for something during a hard winter that they haven't touched for many years prior.
