I have a friends in Nanaimo that have been called to transplant a 50 year old persimmon tree, and they are seeking knowledge on how to best care for its transplant. How much should the branches and roots be trimmed back and in what shape (they've been told to prune it in the shape of an egg. Transplanting will occur this Saturday so a prompt answer is appreciated,

    Cheers

The tree would prefer that you don't cut it back at all. Roots will be cut to make it possible to transport it but there should be little pruning of the top.

    Thank you Ron,

just curious...why shouldn't we prune the branches? I am just thinking that if the roots are not well established the branches will demand too much for leaf growth? I am a newbie for sure, and an explanation will help me understand.

    Cheers
