I live in Victoria, BC and have a number of fruit trees in my back and front yard. Three apples, two European plums, two sweet cherries - one on Mazzard stock and one on Gisella stock, Chinese chestnut, 100 year old standard pear - variety unknown and very productive, Pacific Gold peach and Puget Gold nectarine both doing poorly. What kind of companion fruit/nut bushes can I plant with each of these trees? What kind of companion plants can I plant around the tree bases? Our soil is clay based and very active. Our clover lawn is strikingly green and lush. Our ribes species, stawberries, green onions, and blueberries are thriving. It took the blueberries a couple of years to pick up - some bark mulch around their base helped. We're starting a no till method of soil care.
