Hello. My Pencil Cactus has developed a brown patch on its 'trunk' that is rapidly growing and spreading to other branches. There aren't any bugs, just what appears to be this fungus eating the cactus. I've had it for a year and it is otherwise healthy. Does anyone know of any treatment I can apply or if I should cut off the affected stalks? Any input is greatly appreciated!

Well, I'm not sure what it is, but cut off below the infected area to stop the spread. Don't make any other cuts with the knife/scissors unless you disinfect between cuts.

Thanks, Chester. It's such an interesting cactus/succulent and I hate to have to 'amputate' but if that's what it takes to save the plant . . .
Here in Houston it's so humid and moist that most of my cacti and succulents have failed. So, I'm happy to do what it takes to preserve the ones that are doing well.
    I appreciate the input!
