    Hello fruit tree people,

If any of you have fresh twigs and branches from pruning your apple or pear trees, I volunteer with groups that rescue dumped pet rabbits and try to take care of injured/ill feral rabbits. As most of you know, this is a big problem in several areas of the GVRD.

Rabbits LOVE to eat the pruned twigs and branches of pear and apple trees. Fresh ones are basically bunny crack. This is a really great snack for them as not only does it taste good, but chewing on the wood helps wear down their always-growing teeth.

If any of you have fresh cuttings from trees that have NOT been treated with pest/fungicide, please do let me know either by email/PM/post. Great armfuls, carloads full are turned to bunny compost in no time flat.

(Speaking of rabbits and poop and fertilizer - if you think you might like to try composting with a mix of bunny poop/hay/untreated wood pellets let me know. I didn't realize until recently that the wood pellets could actually be good for the compost. The cages are cleaned daily and could be a useful fertilizer.)

I usually do my customers apple trees in January. Can you remind us again around New Years?

Well, life took over and I didn't remind last New Year's!!! I'm sure I'm too late, but I'll post again just in case.

If anyone has Pear or Apple trees that they recently pruned, I know of some rescued house rabbits that would just love the opportunity to turn them into nice fertilizing pellets!

You can email me at salmonberry@gmail.com or respond via this post.

    Thanks!
(and again apologies for not being on top of things)
