Hello- I have had this peace lily for close to 5 years (It never reflowered). It was horribly root bound and it's leaves were getting smaller and smaller. In April I finally pulled it out of it's pot, cut it in two and repotted both. Now, the leaves are still really small and I am not seeing any new growth. From reading previous strings I believe that it is in a place that doesn't have enough light so I will change that. Also I think when it was still one plant that I would wait until it drooped to water it I might have damaged it. What can I do to make it look lovely again and bloom? thanks
Moving to brighter indirect light (not direct hot sun) It can have SOME morning or late afternoon, which can definitely help the leaves. Also, keeping the soil a little on the moist side at all times and NOT letting it dry out enough so the leaves droop. Let the top inch start to feel "almost" dry, then water thoroughly dumping out any excess.. Good draining soil is a must with drain holes in the bottom of the pots. Roots can die back from drying out and can eventually kill the plant, so be careful. A little fertilizer with each watering, or every other month in the spring and summer months can help, you just don't want to use full strength, it can burn the roots, 1/2 strength of what is recommended, or less in strength should do.
Thanks! I will give it a try and post results. When I divided it, it was during the colder months and I did it in my potting shed with cold potting soil (never crossed my mind that it might be too cold) do you think that is a reason too? I expected it to really take off after dividing.
I would think that if the cold was going to affect anything, it would have been around the time of re-potting. By the way, the microwave is great for slightly warming soil:) Give it a little time, brighter light, the right watering and feeding should yield you better results.
