This should really go in the forum for pest trees, but this one is not a pest. On the path through the Grieg Rhododendron Garden in Stanley Park, there are maybe two Paulownia tomentosa that are allowed to grow and flower (and produce fruits), but there are others here and in some other Parks Board gardens that are cut back every year to stumps around one meter high. Those don't ever flower, but they produce leaves that are huge, much larger than on the trees that are not cut back, on a slender tree that looks like it would be the beanstalk Jack climbed. I am including a photo from 10 years ago showing the size these little leaves will get by the end of summer. The new leaves are down where you can see them, and they're wonderfully fuzzy.
