I have Pampas Grass that has not bloomed since being planted (3 years). Can anyone tell me why? Thank you
Give us information! Where is it planted---soil, light, moisture, etc.? What sort of care do you give it? Do you cut it back in the springtime? Is the non-blooming being caused by unfavorable conditions, nutritional deficiency, too wet/too dry, pest infestation, some critter eating it? Any and all info can be helpful in diagnosing your problem. Photo(s) always good!
The plant is in rocky soil, morning shade & afternoon sun, moderate watering, will be feeding it Peters 20/20/20 with some fish fertalizer tomorrow, I do cut it back in early Spring before it starts getting new growth but otherwise ignore it except to weed around the area. My neighbor has several (older and bigger plants) in the same area of her yard and her's have fluffy things on it all the time. I haven't seen any pests bothering them and nothing seems to be eating away at them, I do give them TLC most of the time. All that is there now is the tan dry curley stuff from last year with a few new strands just coming on so a phoro probably wouldn't do you much good. I've check gardening books and none of them has any information about how to care for Pampas Grass, what to feed them, how much to water them, etc. so I do look forward to your help. Thank you - later!!
From memory I think they take a couple of years to flower. The trend here is to get rid of them as they spread into natural bush where they are not wanted. I removed several from my paddocks that were self seeded. I do know they like lots of sun and seem to thrive in the dry. Here is an old UBC thread that might help for yr area http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=16034 http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1291/ Liz
Thank you, that makes me feel better and I will "patiently" wait for them to come out and grace me with their presence.
