I am in Oregon and almost bought a Ponytail Palm; until I saw it was a houseplant. Can't have large plants in the house; my ferrets LOVE to dig in the dirt. Are there any types of real palms that would survive Oregon's wet seasons (9 months of rain per year-yes, truly. I am just learning about succulents and have the same concern. Thanks to anyone who can shed some light. Linda Willamette Valley Salem, OR
Re: Small Palm Tree Linda ... Trachycarpus fortunei (Windmill palm) is fool-proof. This photo will give you an idea of the overall form. Cheers, LPN.
Re: Small Palm Tree Any idea how old this tree is? I mean, is it a slow growing tree? Thank you for the name of it; I will be searching for it here in the Willamette Valley. Thank you so much.
Re: Small Palm Tree A healthy growing Windmill palm in the PNW climate, once it reaches the maximum trunk diameter, can and often does grow from a foot to two feet of height per year. Slow initially but again after it has been planted for several years they really pick up speed. Cheers, LPN.
