I have a indoor palm tree that I've had for 13 years, its approx 8' tall, I noticed from the top of one branch a strange looking leave has grown out and looks like it has a bunches of seeds, I have never had this happen in the 13 years, does anyone know what this could be? I have attached pictures, I'm not really sure what type of palm it is .
    tks/kab

Well for 13 years you've been under the impression you have a palm, when in fact you have Dracaena fragrans.

    Cheers, Barrie.

thank you for clearing that up, I've just looked at pictures of Dracaena fragrans and yes that is it, I can't wait for it to flower now. I do have another question you may be able to answer, on the flowering stem there is a very sticky liquid, do you know if this liquid harmful to animals? Thanks Again

I wouldn't imagine so, as I have seen birds getting the sticky liquid off mine when it was flowering

My Dracaena now has a very powerful smell, I understand from reading this should last around 3 to 7 days, I am still waiting for the flower to colour. It is very interesting watching the flowering process after having it for 13 years.
now that my Dracaena has flowered do you know how often this occurs?

My sisters dracaena fragrans, common name (corn plant) just flowered after having hers for over 6 yrs, so they don't flower all that often, or, whenever they feel like it kinda thing, for others, never.
Your plant must be happy and getting the right care.
You might want to put down something under the plant like newspaper, because when the spent buds begin to fall, they can make quite a mess!

In habitat, these would flower routinely. Indoor specimen are limited by conditions.

    Cheers, LPN.

I have mine growing outdoors in sub tropical conditions, and I must admit I only seen one of mine flowering earlier this year. It wasn't getting much sun at the time and it flowered. I don't know if the not getting much sun thing made it flower or it just decided to. This one was only 5 ft tall. I have one that is nearly 2 storeys tall and it has never flowered.
    Interesting anyway.

Hi there, just wondering how often you water your plant? I just got one, and it's tips are turning yellow & then brown. I assume Im either watering it too often or too little. I water it maybe twice/month.
    Thanks.
