We live in Upstate N.Y. We will have a foyer in our new house that will be 19' from floor to ceiling. We love Palm Trees and would like to get a Majestic Palm or an Adonididia Palm. We like the single trunk Palm Tree... The house will have hot water base board heat. There will be a very large window that will allow direct sunlight in the afternoon on the spot where we would like to grow the Palm Tree. Our ? is....will either of these 2 Palm Trees thrive in this situation? Thanks
yes they will. But might i suggest getting a dypsis? the lucetens ( formaly known as crysalidocarpus) is an exellent indoor palm one of the most popular. or mabey a dypsis arenarum ( sand palm ). the only downside is that getting almsot any plam tree in new york may be hard except if you get one shipped from warmer states. also it depends on how wide the space is.
Since Victorian times, the Kentia palm(Howea fosteriana) has always been the gold standard for indoor palms. It has a single trunk, grows about 15 feet tall, and requires a minimum of care. Kentias grow equally well in a pot or the ground. They are available from many nurseries in Florida and Texas. You may be able to order one from a local nursery/greenhouse or a landscape contractor. Unfortunately, for a large specimen, the shipping may cost as much as the plant. If you are passionate about palms (like me), this will not be an issue. You will not be disappointed with this palm.
