I have seen this palm (attached photo I have made today) which has lovely fan-like leaves, has tall erect trunk and grows in the backyard. It does tolerate cold and dry season well (in Melbourne last year has been very dry). I am not sure if this is Palmettos Sabal (family Arecaceae) which grows rather in swampy areas (subtropics or warm) and are smaller. That one (on photo) can endure in winter cold winds and low temperature (in Melbourne can drop to 5° C).
Thank you Michael F for ID. You are right. I have looked on internet site http://www.myplantfarm.com/plants_for_sale/washingtonia_palm.jpg and have found picture of washingtonia palm. It looks very like on my picture, maybe a lot younger. Kind regards Kaz
