Hello all, I'm rather new to the whole gardening thing and moved to a house with a lovely garden. For the first year I haven't touched anything and just waited to see what happens, what grows and generally learning as I go along. I do have question regarding a palm tree that I have, it seems to have a branch growing from it and I'm not quite sure what to do about it (pics below) any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.
Yep, Cordyline australis (Cabbage-tree); not actually a palm, but related to plants like Agave. Originally from New Zealand.
Yes, it'll flower (the flowers are small, creamy-white, but in a very large cluster as you've seen!). If it gets pollinated, it'll develop lots of small berries in the autumn - whether that happens will depend on their being another flowering Cordyline nearby to pollinate it. No need to cut it off, at least not until after any berries have been eaten by birds.
