Hello and Thank You for taking the time to read this post. I don't know what kind of Palm Tree I have. I think that I have a Bottle Palm if I remember correctly when I purchased this. I purchased in Florida over the summer. When i got this potted in the summer it was doing well it was sprouting up new branches was green and looked healthy. Now it is winter and I fear I am losing the Tree, brought it indoors and now the branches are turning brown. I read some posts and I think I may have more then one problem. but I don't know if I am taking care of it properly. I don't think the problem is root rot (although im not certain) because it was doing fine outside on my porch. it was outside for like 3 months until late November when it started getting colder, and I don't really know if it will survive in cold weather. I was reading other posts and then said to watch out for indoor Mites this could be my problem, if I stare at the soil for several minutes i can then see some small whitesh - yellow bugs crawling around the trunk and soil not alot but about 10 from what i counted (could be more) if these are indeed a threat how could I Eliminate them? also I have noticed a real Sandy smell coming from the soil, is that because of the Fertilizer? The bugs seem to go away after wattering the plant or harder to notice now. also the soil I purchased was some sort of enhanced draining soil it's in a RED bag, it's Scotts brand purchased at Lowes. Now About the Pictures As you can see some of the branches were Green and now they are turning brown Also I posted one of the soil I don't know what that yellow stuff is. I don't believe it was there in the summer when i brought the plant in. I also found a seed, can I plant this if the tree dies and start new? I am very afraid it is this (warning may cause you to feel itchy - I know it did me) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:MitesMassing.jpg although it's not moving at all. When I stare at it First I guess I need to know if this is cold hearty, and proper care. I live very Close to Cincinnati, OH so sometimes we see some cold weather in the teens and sometimes in single digits, also I was reading about people in zone 4 and zone 6 how do I find out what zone I am in? If this fails what type of palm tree would do okay in my area?
