A friend of ours has offered to us a 'Pine palm tree' ? Not sure if this is its true name and she does not now it by any other. May have to go and take a picture and post it. She has it in a pot on her deck and says that it is getting too big and wants to give it away. Is anyone familiar with a tree with this name?
Cordyline australis seems likely. Have not encountered this common name for it before but I could see someone characterizing it in such a fashion. It has been called cabbage palm before, and has been marketed locally as Dracaena 'Spikes'. So there you have "palm" in one instance and "spikes" (similar to "needles") in another - combining the two would give us something akin to "pine palm".
Palm Pine ? - (tree) w/ photo's I submitted a post a while back without pictures. Here are some photos. We have been given this tree and our friend was told it is called a 'Palm Pine'. I cannot find anything with this common name. I am hoping that someone will know. The needles look as though they are just reflexed and curling, but they actually are tubular with in appearance. Very soft and flexible branches also.
Re: Palm Pine ? - (tree) w/ photo's Looks like Sciadopitys verticillata. Common name Japanese umbrella pine. https://facultystaff.richmond.edu/~...s/sciadopitys_verticillata_TOWER-HILL_02s.JPG http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sciadopitys_verticillata3.jpg
Definitely. An interesting thing about it is that the "needles" are actually two fused leaves which can be peeled apart. The specimen shown badly needs a bigger pot.
