Identification: palm id ?

Can anyone tell me what kind of palm this is? Is it supposed to have dif colored stems and trunk? I keep buying plants that say "indoor foliage" but no name....

 

Looks like a Chrysalidocarpus lutescens, (Golden Cane Palm) to me...

the golden cane palms have thin multiple shoots in all of the pictures ive seen, I was wondering, since it has 1 thick base that looks kinda bulbous at the bottom could it be a bottle palm? look at some pics of those and tell me what you think

 

Might be Hyophorbe verschaffeltii, Spindle Palm.

i believe its a triangle palm ( dypsis dacaryi ). I bought one a few months ago. Take a look at the bottom of the trunk. Its wider then the rest but has the ld leaf scars left on it. Also, look at the pattern of the leaves, staying at the sides moreso. Other young palms have leaves all the way around the trunk for the most part.

 

Yeah, but the colour looks wrong for Triangle Palm don't you think. D. decaryi fronds are bluey grey....
What does everyone else think??

mine are jsut green, the newer ones are even lighter. The lower leaves are way darker then the top ones.

 

Sorry Canadianplant, I meant the "spine" (for want of a better word) of the leaf is a yellowey colour, which would indicate Spindle Palm. Triangle Palm "spines" are blue,grey or green....
I've never seen a Triangle Palm with a yellow spine before....but I am way off from being an expert, I'm just going off my experience

Sorry man I gave a bad description. The older, lower leaves on my triangle palm are a dark greenish blue, while the newer ones are a lighter green. Almost like the darker green on the quick reply background.

 

Understand mate, but none of your leaf "spines" are yellow on you Triangle are they?

But it does look like a Dypsis. My triangle is quite blue, but that's not always the case.

 

What about Dypsis carlsmithii???

I don't think so Chris, as I have one at home. They are multi stemmed and the stem colour is red when they are young. I will try and post a photo tonight when I get home??

Mine was golden and single stemmed (when young)!

 

I think Dypsis carlsmithii is fairly hard to get here in Florida (full disclosure: I have a youngster in the yard, and it doesn't look like the photo)

Dypsis cabadae [formerly Chrysalidocarpus] is more common.

 

LOL!!! I don't know then!!! Maybe one of the nurseries mislabelled one of the plants or both. I wouldn't be surprised if it was over here...I don't know what they are like over there, but some get pretty bad over here at times. Sometimes I think they just make up a name. I will definitely post a pic of mine when I get home...

OK I just got in contact with a mate who I buy some of my palms from. Dypsis cabadae or Blue Cane, has a blue,grey trunk, even when young. I have that one at home, but not the one I was thinking of above (roll eyes). The one I was told was D. cabadae is NOT, as it is red, but is another dypsis that I will find later. I'm supposed to be working Shhh.
So Chris I think your D. cabadae is also misidentified like mine above.
I guess this doesn't help devinrae55, who is probably never going to ask a question again!! LOL

I had to come home and take photos, it was doing my head in!! OK
#1 I think is D. cabadae (Blue Cane)
#2 Is what was labelled D. cabadae and I now think is another Dypsis
#3 Spindle palm is what I think the 1st post is...

What do you guys think??

FWIW, mine looks very much like the plant in the picture submitted by the OP.

 

Thanks for all of the responses, I wish all of my posts got these results! I think that it may be a spindle palm, I found the company's name that grew the plant, went to their site, found the types of palms they grew, and looked up images for each of the names they listed, and SO FAR by what I can tell the spindle matches the CLOSEST but im still not 100%. I have it indoor and all of my windows face south so we will see if it makes it through the winter. Got any tips palm gurus?
