Identification: Palm ID

  1. I have recently purchased six plams, all of them the same kind, what has confused me is that the young leaves are fishtail shaped and are solid but when they mature the leaves split and begin to look like normal palms, what is it?

  2. Woodyetia bifurcata, common name Foxtail Palm. Native to Northern Australia likes well drained soils, plenty of sun when older sheltered when young. Frost sensitive, doesn't like low temperatures. Protected species until just recently.
