Pacific Maldrone Bark

    Pacific Madrone Bark

    I think this is a Pacific Madrone, though I am not sure. Also, note
    lichens and epiphyte/parasite growth on bark.

    What size were the leaves?

    I suspect it may be a Manzanita (Arctostaphylos species), a close relative of Madrone

    perhaps it is Arctostaphylos glauca.
