    Hi all,

I recently transplanted a beautiful 6ft pachira aquatica I've had for about 2 years. I transplanted it from a 12 inch pot (original pot it has been in for 2 years) into a 20 inch pot.

I have barely watered it and the leaves are turning yellow and falling off. The top leaves are droopy and the new growth is wilting. At first only the bottom leaves starting turning yellow but now the leaves in the middle of the plant are yellowing.

I have stopped watering all together this week but the leaves are still yellowing at what seems to be a faster rate. Is this normal as it is still adjusting? What should I do?

going from a 12 inch container to one that is 20 is too large a transition. also, the excess amount of soil is most likely too wet - which is not good, either.

i'd repot it in something either 14 or 16 inches wide. you'll also want to keep the depth the same for the new container as it was for the original one.

i'd use fresh soil if the current soil turns out to still be too wet/moist. let it sit in the new container for a few days (to give it a little recuperation time) and then do a thorough watering...give it water in increments (cup or two at a time) and let the water soak down. keep repeating (and moving around the container so that all the soil ends up being moistened) and then stop as soon as you see some water starting to come out of the drain holes.

with larger pots like this, watering should only need to be done every 3-4 weeks. you need to let the soil dry out and that much soil takes a while for it to do that.
