Just curious, but can cuttings of shurbs/vines that normally go dormant for winter but kept indoors as houseplants until spring? If they don't receive the lowering temps and hours of light, would they even "know" they are supposed to go dormant?
Yes: Most cold climate species must have a dormant period. Deciduous trees and shrubs often have to be taken in a comparatively soft condition and rooted early in the growing season, gotten to flush a new top growth that same summer - which then sets overwintering dormant buds. Otherwise these may not grow new shoots the following spring, even though they formed roots the previous year.
