Hello one and all! This is my first time but found the website when I was looking up the Jasmine. I live in Ontario (Northern - about 1 and 1/2hrs. drive northeast of Toronto) and often watch the gardening shows on HGTV. One show in particular, I know, is based in Toronto and the gardener has planted a Jasmine tree outdoors in the garden. I bought one about a month ago and am wondering if I can plant it in the garden (it is currently still in the pot), or do I have to bring it in for the winter? We are in zone 4, if that helps. Are they hearty enough to bare the cold?

It depends on what you are calling a "jasmine tree." That is a common name applied to several plants. Usually I find people are refering to Murraya paniculata, which definately will not survive outdoors in Ontario (it could be grown outdoors for the summer though.) Can you tell us more about the plant or give us the Latin name?

And certainly if it is a Jasminum species type (the vine with the beautiful scent and little white flowers) it also won't live outside in winter there. At best it would be a subtropical.
