thanks for all the responses to our post. we decided on the sango kaku. it was slightly damaged when delivered to the nursery 3 years ago, thats why we got it fo 50.00.it is well healed over and seems to be in good shape. we are hoping for a good season next year and looking forward to what the bark does this winter. here are several pics of it. again thanks for all the advice.

It's really a nice specimen. It also looks pretty good and healty, but its best characteristic is the extremely low price.
I have four SK (three of them in ground) all of them about 7-8' high. It took some time to adapt to the site, but this year they seem that finally taken off. They almost doble the size of their trunks and branches and also they had only marginal die back; but yours looks pretty good. Let me tell you that here in Houston, at the place where I got the SKs, I saw one with similar size and form as yours. The nurseryman wanted 500$ for it!! (No doubt, you got a real bargain!)

    Good luck!

    Hi Nelran,

How long a time was it before your SK's adapted and took off?

Also are yours sited in sunny windy locations?

    Thanks for info.

thanks nelran, we think its a pretty tree. the only reason we got it so cheap was that it has slight damage to the bottom of the trunk,it was damaged 3 years ago in shipping, but it has healed over nicley.all the other sk trees there were of similar size and went for 150.00 -200.00 this is the web site for the nursery www.capewaynursery.com they specialize in jp maples. we also bout a viridis from them this past spring wich is doing nicley.here is a pic of the veridis, actualy it is a waterfall but they are so much alike its hard to tell the difference, good luck with your sk's myles p.s. we are still waiting for the color to change on the waterfall, will send pics when it does

    Hi, All

As I have just taken sango kaku's pics, I posted them. The edge of leaves are getting to turn red from yellow & green. The shape & color of leaf is so "Beautiful". And we can enjoy the coral color of branches after all reaves gone. I heard that deer like to it ... I hope deer will not eat it!!!!! But I wish I could take picture deer with the sango kaku.

    Thanks, myles's spause
