I just came across these photos of Osmunda regalis, royal fern, taken at the Vancouver Heritage Society's self-directed private gardens tour last year. The photos have been unnamed, but this time when I saw them, I could say "I know that". But I still had to search for the name. Maybe having them posted here will help me find the name more quickly next year. They make a wonderful planting where there is space for them. The huge double compound leaves are so striking, and the fronds are usually in good condition in the plantings I've seen (well, for this show, the owners would have made sure of that).

This is a different location on the same tour. The last three photos show developing fertile fronds.
