    Hello!

I just stumbled upon this site by accident, but i have to say - i think it's a great site!

I am actually looking to see if anyone knows anywhere in Canada where i can buy an OroBlanco Tree... i lived in Japan for one year (quite a few years ago), and i got hooked on that fruit while i was there. I have still not found anywhere that i can buy the fruit (to start a tree from a seed) or buy a planted tree (that would be my ideal choice) in Canada. I have found a few places in the US, but i would not be able to get them shipped to me where i live.

It would mean the world to me if i could finally get my hands on one of these trees, so if anyone can give me any information, i would really appreciate it!!

    katherine :)

Katherine, I bought a Oro Blanco from the Duncans this past spring. It was grafted on trifoliate rootstock, I paid $40 cdn. I had lots of blossoms this year and currently have 3 little grapefruit on my small plant. I expect it to be a 18 month growing cycle for the fruit. The duncans grow their oro blanco mother tree in the ground - in a cold frame.
A friend picked up the plant for me while visiting the Victoria area. Apearantly they have quite the operation. They are located very close to the Swartz Bay ferry terminal.

Thank you for the responses!! I just emailed the Duncan's, so hopefully i will hear back soon. This is by far the closest i've come to getting one of these, so thank you both so much!

    Greg and Katherine,
I'd be interested in knowing how well this variety performs in our area, even more so if your tree is grown exclusively indoors. For example. Will there be enough heat units for the fruit to ripen and acquire its sweetness?

    Greg,
Which form is your tree in - bush, half-standard (like Four Winds), or full-standard (like Monrovia)?

I Guess you would call it a bush type It was in my Garage over the winter (sitting on a shelf in front of the window. It is sending out new growth and buds now. There are still the 3 small fruit on it from last year. I am not sure if the dormant plant (during the winter) will have any ill effect on the fruit. It got cold but not below freezing i think they got a little dry a couple of times. :(

Please let us know how long it takes for the fruit to ripen and of what quality they are.

No problem. I will have it in a small greenhouse if and when the weather warms up.
I think that will help with growth. I didnt do that last year. Live and learn....
