    Hello everyone:)

I am new to the forums. I have been searching the internet trying to find answers and figured it was best to just ask the question. I am hoping some of you can help.

I have an ornamental plum tree that I had purchased 2 years ago. When I brought it home it was just starting to bloom. It continued to bloom througout the spring.

Since then, it has failed to bloom. It produces leaves every spring but still no blooms. I bought it from our local nursery but I am wondering if maybe I am in the wrong area to be growing such a tree. Come to think of it, I have not seen one within the city. I live in Prince Rupert.

Thanks in advance for your help

Not a usual problem, has any part of the top died or been cut back severely since planting?

It has not been cut back at all. The stems appear healthy. The leaves are beginning to show now.

You need a cross pollenator that blooms at the same time as your plum tree.

Problem is lack of flowering, not fruiting. Pollination has nothing to do with whether or not flowers are produced.

As far as I was told and read on the tag when purchased, this will not produce fruit. I purchased it because it had amazing double pink blooms, the leaves came in after. I have leaves already but no flowers for 2 years:)

A very young looking green. Not at all purple. The leaves of this tree have never been purple. It produces double pink blooms on the stems but before the leaves come.

Then liable to be Prunus mume. Do the flowers smell like carnations? Is there a name on the tag?

I do not have the tag but remember that to be the name. The flowers did have a scent. I browsed google images and that is indeed the one.

As long as the tree is healthy, I'd give it some time (couple of more years). It is probably still establishing itself. If you are really concerned, have a soil test done. Perhaps your soil is lacking phosphorous which is essential for flower buds.

It could also be Prunus triloba.

Thanks everyone. I will give it a couple more seasons. I really do hope it works out. It is such amazing show of blooms in the spring.
