I am looking to plant an exciting ornamental grass in my Western Gardens this year. Around town, I have seen a couple of examples of exactly the type of floofy, dashing plant that I wish to explode forth from the ground, like a horticultural exclamation point.

Sadly, none of these examples are wearing a sticker that says "Hello! My name is grassus spikyriffica." In light of this deficiency, I have taken the liberty of taking a picture of one of these grasses with the hope that my friends here might be able to identify it.

This picture was taken in late August, or possibly the first week of September. This particular citizen of the ground is probably 4 or 5 feet around, and maybe the same in height.

While I don't necessarily need this exact plant, I want something like it - spiky, explosive-looking, and about right for a space that's in the neighborhood of 4.5 ft x 4.5 ft.

What say you? Is there any hope for my humble dream?

Only a guess, but it looks like a Dwarf selection of Miscanthus sinensis.

4-5 feet is too high for F. ovina.
