Hello all: Not sure if I am posting in the right forum or not, but here goes. I am looking for a source of organic, (non-GMO) anthurium seeds, or cultivars that could be shipped to Hawaii. Thanks in advance for any guidance and direction. Roger@greenerworld.net
Your best bet would be to check eBay. There are several good growers of Anthurium species in your islands. The species you wish to purchase will be the determining factor. Many of the largest growers produce only hybridized forms of Anthurium andreanum which is the plant that produces the colorful spathe. Some of the folks that grow the most interesting forms sell plants that originate in Ecuador, Colombia or Brazil. From time to time you can find seeds available but do your homework. I often see some name like "Anthurium hookeri" being used when seeds are offered. The true Anthurium hookeri is a very unique species from the Caribbean and the northeastern portion of South America. The real species looks nothing like the hybrids that get dumped into that "catch all" name. One large wholesaler of true species in South Florida is now trying to educate all the people down there that the name they love to use is not scientifically accurate. Click on the link beneath my name and send me a private email. You'll find my email address near the bottom of the homepage. I'll gladly give you the names and email addresses of some excellent growers in Hawaii. And you might receive more responses if this post was in the Aroid forum. Several good growers check that forum and you may receive more responses.
