hi everyone..... Me and my husband bought a home 2 years ago and the home came with 2 orange trees and 1 grapefruit tree. Since we've had the place we get alot of oranges and grapefruits, BUT the fruit doesn't turn the orange and yellow they are supposed to turn! There all still greenish brown. We don't know what to do about this everyones fruit trees are perfect except ours! What can we do to get them healthy again? We have trimmed the trees back! PLEASE help if you can!!! Is there someone we can call to come get them inspected? Thanks for your help *IF* you can help DaleB
Trimming the tree back could well be a mistake you will later regret. However, to help you we certainly need to know where you are located. Where is Holiday?
Millet..... Holiday is in Florida! Do you think I should call an expert and have them give me a free consult? Thanks for your reply DaleB
Reasons for citrus not turning orange in color are: 1) Weather too hot, or not cold enough. 2) excess amounts of nitrogen fertilizer, 3) insects such as rust mites. 4.) variety. Number one probably does not apply, because your neighbors fruit has colored. NOTE: even though your fruit are not orange in color they could still be ripe and edible. Contact the county agent, or the University. - Millet
The brown color sounds like rust mites. They do not affect the taste or quality of the fruit, just the appearance. They can be controlled with oil spray earlier in the season, but once the fruit is colored, oil spray will not change it.
