I hesitated to post this in the Orchid section because I have Epicactis Helleborine coming up in my lawn and would like to effectively eradicate it; I am an admirer or orchids but not growing in my lawn. I would be happy if I could contain them in a small section but I suspect, judging from their growth habit, this is not an option. Can anyone help? I live in Ottawa ON where there are others in this same predicament. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
I've heard of it becoming invasive in shady undisturbed places but not in a lawn. Since it is an upright plant I would have thought that after you dug out any bigger clumps regular lawn mowing would have caused it to give up pretty quickly since it would never be able to flower or set seed. Now I'm curious; does it spread by runners or is there a wild patch nearby which is reseeding into your lawn every year?
Hi, it must spread by runners and seems to prefer both sun and shade. It often comes up in clusters and under shrubs, etc., and despite my religiously pulling (and mowing them down) there are more every year. I've not knowingly let them bloom but I have heard they form seed pods that burst.
