We have trees grown from orange seeds about 1 1/2 ft tall. Do they need to be grafted to be fruit bearing? They are in pots and we're not sure where to go from here. We live in Central Florida with sandy soil but we have some freezing in winters.

An orange seedling will mature and begin to flower in 10-15 years. Grafting onto an existing rootstock will not shorten that time.

However grafting scions from fruit bearing trees will allow
them to fruit much sooner. Seedling can bear edible fruit
but there's no way to know what quality it will be.

There's a very good chance that the seedlings are true to type because of the polyembryony in citrus seed. It would be helpful to know the variety of orange in question.
