Can anybody tell me about the orange spots I have seen on some trees? I posted this in the stickied note on bark issues but have yet to have any responses. I'd really love some feedback.

Perhaps we can start with some definitions. What is a canker? Is it any wound on a tree (I've heard people refer to healed squirrel damage as a canker) or is it specifically the result of a pathogen (if so what type(s))?

Second, does anybody know the "official" name for my tiny, fuzzy orange spots? If so, what is it, how does it spread, how dangerous is it to the infected tree and how dangerous to the rest of my collection?

    Anybody?

Nectria cinnabarina? We say Coral spot over here.

If so a fungus mostly seen on dead wood but can infect the living. Prune out a few inches below the infection and burn all the prunings.

Try some Bayer Systemic fungicide. Seems to work miracles...
