I registered today because I was interested in this orange fungus I found outside my house near the Gulf Coast in Florida. Hopefully these threads aren't frowned upon, but they don't seem to be. I've attached a picture I took, sorry for the mediocre quality. There was a pile of unused potting soil outside, and I noticed this little guy there today. It has 5 fingers that connect again at the top, forming a 'roof' under which there is a thick blackish goo. The thing also stinks. Hopefully when I smelled it I didn't inhale harmful spores that will lead to the demise of mankind. I couldn't find anything similar to this on Google, so I thought I'd turn it over to the experts! What is this?
Looks like a sp. of Stinkhorn fungus. Clathrus columnatus, maybe. You might be interested in this: http://www.floridata.com/tracks/gardenersjournal04/journal_11_04.cfm Scroll down to images 2, 3 and 4. Welcome to the Forum!
