We have two large shrubs (we had a hard time deciding if they were large shrubs or small trees) in our yard that we cannot identify. They have bright orange flowers that bloomed from an orange berry/fruit this week (in Arkansas). Before they bloomed we thought they were crepe myrtles. I have searched and searched but cannot find anything to indicate what this is....can you help?

We can post a picture if that will help.
    Thanks,

    Jimmy and Robin

I wonder if that is correct...the flowers have much more than 5 petals...which is what I've read the pomegranete has...here are some pics:

Explanation is that yours is a double-flowered pomegranate.

The correct name of the plant is Punica granatum ‘Flore-pleno’

I see TyTy Nursery advertising, but that greenhouse is not reliable and best to not deal with them.

I do thank you very much. Oh, yes, another question. I have noticed some advertisement for this bush as a hardy dwarf....I am looking however for the shrub that grows to about 10 or 12 feet more or less with double gorgeous fluorescent orange-red blooms.

Will the dwarf variety grow tall if let to grow in the ground? Thanks again all.

Thanks for posting this question. I moved into my first house last summer and have the same exact shrub in my yard.....orange flowers - almost as tall as a tree. BEAUTIFUL. I couldn't find any information about it. Your pictures could have been mine. So, thanks to you, I now know what I have. I am thinking of planting a few more...different colors. I love this shrub. It just started to bloom this week and I was thrilled. Thanks again.

One more thing.....last year I took some blooms and floated them in a bowl of water...made a great center piece on my table. They floated so well (as you can imagine after looking at the "pod" the flower come out of" and they lasted a super long time.

Just an FYI if you haven't tried it.

I'd like to add my thanks, too. We've had two nurseries look at our samples and they have been completely stumped. I know this thread is quite old, but how wonderful to have an answer to this question!! It is a beautiful shrub/tree, now in full flower. We love it!
