Hi first time poster, long time lurker. I've recently move house and inherited what i believe to be an orange dream. It had a fair amount of die back which i have removed. To me it seems rather bare and the leaves small and clumped around the top. Any suggestions and am i correct in thinking orange dream? Tia 20160509_134041.jpg 20160509_134035.jpg

Welcome to the forum! Orange dream is a good guess based on spring color. I have Orange dream and the bark is green and the leaf is more palmate than deeply divided like your tree. I usually don't post, unless i know what it is for sure. But I noted the black in the lower center branch in picture 1 (the branch coming right at the camera, bottom center of the photo). This branch should be removed back to healthy leaves or branches that produce leaves. The infection can continue through the branch, back to the trunk if not removed.

Good luck! Thanks for posting, i am sure others will chime in with help soon!

Thank you. I have removed all the dieback and any branch with black back to healthy growth since taking photos ( not sure how to get photos on via phone). Orange dream was a very uneducated guess! I am a novice with JMs 3/4 years maximum and only six trees due to garden size in my last property. Since moving i now have two large garden areas that i plan on ground planting and increasing my collection. Although having only registered on the forum earlier you guys have been a wealth of information over the last few years and of course varies books and any online info I've been able to pick up.

One of my two Orange Dreams. This one was not in good shape and the nursery gave it to me so it has finally started to come back around. The tree you have looks pretty close to me.

Yes the colours are amazing at moment up here. I think its just been left to it own for a while so looking in pretty bad shape with a fair bit of die back which has all been removed. I'll monitor it now and see how it goes. Possibly pot it as i was thinking of putting my sango kaku in that area of the garden
