This cactus is known by many names, including Indian Fig, Mission Cactus and Barbary Fig, but is best known for its sweet flesh and is often sold as simply "prickly pear" in local supermarkets. Grown commercially in many parts of the world for its edible fruit its true origin is unknown, although most suspect Mexico. Questionably hardy to zone 8b this perennial will reach heights of 15ft.
These are 3 month old seedlings from store bought fruit in which the seeds were cold stratified for 3 months - almost 100% germination rate with 37 out of 38 seeds sprouting.
