Wildflowers: opposite, 5 sepals, fruits in leaf axis, thick leaves w/ strong midvein

    Found in a wet to wet-mesic old field in Illinois.

    Triosteum aurantiacum (unless the leaves are perfoliate nearer to the base of the plant)

    Weird, an upland/woodland plant found in a wet/sunny area. Looks to be straight T. aurantiacum (Swink also lists T. aurantiacum var. illinoense, but this guy doesn't have long hairs on its stem.)
