Hello, Question for everyone, Will an Opata Chum pollinate a Brookred Plum successfully? I have both and have been finding mixed sources on the internet. If they will not pollinate then can someone list a few pollinators for each of them, I understand Western Sandcherry will be good for Opata. Thanks! Jake
Good Morning Huzelj, In theory Opata will pollinated Brookred but in practice it is difficult in most places in Alberta just because they do not bloom at the same time. Opata blooms much later than Brookred in most areas. But, don't take my word because I have never lived in Calgary. The best pollinator for Brookred is a pure native Canada plum (Prunus nigra). Opata is self-fruitful but if you want to be sure get another chum. Sapalta is a good one - better eating and processing quality than Opata. Peace Thean
