Identification: One or two lichen(s)?

    Is this one or two species? They were growing on the ground.

    Agreed, basal squamules is a common feature for most Cladonias, so in that sense, likely one species.
    In a different sense however, there is a lot going on in your photo and some species do look very similar and grow together, so I can't say without close examination how many species you may have there :-)
