Olive tree in bloom

My 'Arbequina' Olive tree is in full bloom and perhaps I'll get a bumper crop this year.

Aren't bumpers made of metal? How long has this one been bearing there?

 

This one has been in-ground for 3 years now and stands roughly 8' tall. This is the first year it's really bloomed to this extent.
Bumpers are made of more than just metal these days.

 

ya, metal with a plastic coating and I think some sort of hard foam in between.

Do olive trees produce much fruit in BC? Very good fruit?

 

Olive trees are mostly a specimen tree for collectors here, but on Pender Island it's become more than that.

"providing the rootstock" is all I read in this article.

 

OK, providing the rootstock. Makes no difference--what are they talking about?

 

How fragrant are they, please ?

 

Ron B ... "providing the rootstock", perhaps a reference to propagation from cuttings? I don't know for certain.

bcgift52 ... no fragrance at all. Although, my sense of smell is quite poor.
