Hello, my mom has a kiwi tree in her yard in the New Hampshire. From the research i have done on my own it looks to be a Hardy Kiwi tree, has small grape sized fruit with smooth green outside, and that is about all I know. The plant has been growing in the yard for around 15 years now, and has never been pruned and rarely touched. The stand its on is a very large rectangular wood stand with wood beams in the center, It measures 15' long, 10' wide, and 7'tall. I was wondering what would be a good way to prune and take care of it. Thank you.

    Hi,

Kiwis are actually vines, not trees. But they are very woody and large and therefor are sometimes included in the fruiting tree category when discussing how to maintain them. You can prune it however you like, to suit your space or botanical architecture. Just keep in mind that it is best to prune in the winter while the plant is dormant, and fruiting usually occurs on 2 year old wood. So if you're interested in getting fruit, be sure to leave some of last years growth on the plant. If it needs severe pruning, don't concern yourself with the fruit, just prune the until you've created the infrastructure that you need, and you can worry about maintaining 2-yr wood at it rejuvenates.
