I have an older Cherry tree, I am told it is a "Queen Anne" by my neighbour. I am also told that it bears great amounts of fruit but havent experienced this yet as I have only owned the home for one summer and it failed miserably this last summer.. Hoping someone could give me some advise as to what I am experiencing and possible solutions. The leaves on the tree looked to be eaten by an insect of some sort, as did the pear and plum tree in my yard. There were no visable caterpillars or nests that I could see. This seemed to develop almost imediately once the leaves developed. Once the blossoms dropped, the fruit did not develop and they all fell shortly after, before they could mature. Didnt get any fruit at all off this tree. I have a few other large "pie cherry" trees on the property as well and there seemed to be no problems at all with these. Hoping to keep this from happening again if possible, any suggestions would be appreciated..
complete lack of fruit I usually start with blooming time and pollinators, looks for bees when those flowers are open. If the fruit sets to a small size then drops of you may have a nutrient issue (soil test). Also in april and may check for Bruce Spanworm, this is a common defoliator of many plants and could be afflicting your fruit trees. Btk is an organic product you can use to spray for spanworm.
