So I repotted a bunch of Howarthias cause they were getting really crowded in their original pot. I took the ones to be repotted out carefully, let them callus over about 4 days and then when the root looked good a dry I planted them again. I watered them once after I finished but only just a little. Then I would add water maybe once a week if the soil looked really dry. Now they are starting to die. They get all soft in the middle and you can see an obvious discolouration between the dying part and the part that hasn't died yet. I will take pictures as soon as possible if that will help identify the problem. I also noticed a lot of small flys hanging out on my one good plant that isn't dying (or hasn't started to yet). I don't know if they are part of the problem or not, just thought it was worth mentioning. Here is the original post when I was doing it, and some pictures of the plant before I moved it appart (http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=29517).

    Yay pics!

You can see in teh first 2 photos how the centers of the plants are turning brown. You will notice water cause I watered all of them as it has been about 2 weeks since the last bit of water they got. The 2 plants in the 3rd picture are doing just fine, but the one int he red pot is the one that attracts the bugs. In the 4th picture there are 3 large plants and 1 small one. The large middle one is my issue cause the bottom is looking soggy (as per picture 5) and then if you look directly down the top, you can see there is more problems (as per pic 6). It had 2 small shoots coming out the top but then they just dried up, so I pulled them out (was very easy to do) and now there is another one coming, but it looks dark brown in the middle which is worrying me.

So with all that said... help!!! I don't want them to all die and I am worried that they are heading in that direction. If you see anything I could do differently or could change/fix to save them please let me know!

    Thanks in advance!

they're being overwatered. do a good/deep soaking once a month. as winter gets here you can hold back watering to every 6 weeks. when the days start getting longer in the spring, go back to once a month watering. if you put them outside in the summer you may need to water more frequently.

also, they don't need direct sunlight...bright indirect light is about all they need.

Right, got it. Can I put them in direct sunlight to help dry them out? Or is that bad? Is there anything I can do at this point aside from not watering them?
