Hello all, My boss was given the plant in the picture I have attached. It is now starting to die and she has asked me to look after it. My problem is I have no idea what type of plant it is. Maybe it needs more light or less. Maybe it needs a bigger pot. I'm not sure. could someone please identify this plant so I can figure how to care for it? Thanks very very much!! Melody
Welcome to UBC forums! It is a Cyclamen it is looking good. Remove all shop wrapping. Place the pot on a shallow saucer...always water into the saucer not into the leaves. Shouldn't need repotting for ages. More advise here.. http://www.cyclamen.org/faq_set.html
Thank you so much for the info. she has been watering from the top and too much as there is lots of yellowing in the undergrowth. Should I be cutting the flowers that have started to wilt as there are new buds that haven't opened yet?
Cyclamen grow from a corm....if watered from the top the danger is for the corm to rot. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=c...&sa=X&ei=5l5oVf3CEczWUcDrgbgN&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ Yes, dead head old flowers...also dead and yellow leaves. More houseplants die from being overwatered than from under watering.
