I found this curious little oak tree growing in my garden - a present from a squirrel, no doubt, as there are no oak trees nearby. It has a mottled leaf. When I first spotted it, I thought it might be diseased. On closer inspection, it appears to be a type of variegation. Does anyone know what type of oak it may be?

English oaks often come up variegated under nursery conditions. It usually does not last.

Wrong leaf shape for Quercus robur (unlike many American white oaks, Q. robur has leaf shape the same in seedlings and adults).
