Just a few from yesterday - I have to get out of here for the weekend (not so far away as to be out of the rain, though). Here's the first tree that meets your eye entering the garden - Gingko biloba, right at the entrance gate, looking very splendid. Competing for most yellow tree are Lindera obtusiloba [name corrected by wcutler], this one behind the Admin building (the one that was reported earlier has no leaves now), and Alangium platanifolium, with its blue berries shown off so nicely against the leaves now. The tree contributing some colour to the right of the Alangium is Meliosma myriantha. The Decaisnea fargesii leaf arrangement is as interesting as its halloween fruits. Over in the North Garden, the Nyssa sylvatica is one of the colour stars, and it's visible from several vantage points. These Oxydendrum arboreum are a knock-out. The Hydrangea paniculata 'Unique' has not only yellow leaves but still has its huge pink flowers to attract attention. Here's one red: Acer palmatum 'Omato'. This is just a photo to show that Nadia and I aren't the only people in the garden. I just don't usually take photos of them. We could just overhear Douglas telling his class something about how people like to grow ornamentals with some edible value like the blueberries, or maybe it was that they want their food garden to look pretty.
