I have a small smoke tree, as identified in a different forum, and would like to move it to a better place. Can someone help me? I don't want to kill it.
    Thanks

Like most deciduous stuff, these will take moving while dormant with little problem...esp. a little plant like yours.

Right about now would be the absolute worst time to dig it, as it is just flushing with juicy new growth. I would wait till weather cools for you in the fall, then water well and move it before it drops its leaves. I find things often move fine at that time, and establish better because of the warm soil that allows some good root growth before winter.

Otherwise, anytime before the buds start to grow in spring. Smoke trees are very tough, actually hard to kill if you ever need to get rid of one!

Thank you. I'll wait until fall to move it. Do they do better in full sun or partial shade. Right now it gets afternoon sun.

The more sun, the more intense the colour. Again, these are tough plants and will survive most places, even in shade...just won't give the nice show and will tend to grow lankier.

Smoke trees are also tolerant of drought once established.
