Not sure what this is

I came across this walking on our land down in arkansas, it seems somebody built a kind of fence around it to protect it, does anyone know what it is?

Aster family plant like aster or goldenrod.

 

I won't be able to tell without a picture of the more mature plants. Pics of the flowers and close up of mature leaves and stems will help.
